Hawkins, Merele Estelene

Merle Estelene Hawkins, 89, died June 22, 2003, at Anderson County Long Term Care in Garnett. Merle, the daughter of Fred O. and Nettie Frances Harder Pracht, was born Nov. 11, 1913, in Elmdale.

Mrs Hawkins grew up in the Elk community, near Elmdale. She attended schools at Elk, Elmdale and Cottonwood Falls. She married Richard E. Hawkins on Dec. 9, 1936, at Cottonwood Falls. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Christian Church at Garnett. She was also a member of the Earnest HDU and the Sunset Garden Club, where she held many offices.

Mrs. Hawkins is survived by two daughters, Mary Dale Setter, Olathe; and Joyce Ann Hastert, Garnett; a brother, Wayne Pracht, Westphalia; six grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and sister, Marjorie M. Hunt The funeral service June 25 at the First Christian Church, Garnett. The Rev Gary Benjamin officiated. Interment was in Garnett Cemetery, Garnett.
