LaFayette Hawkins
Passes, Suddenly
Suffers Heart attack while Sleeping. Found by Sister With Whom He Lived.
Prince Lafayette Hawkins died at his home near Clements, last Saturday morning, January 23. He had not been very well most of the winter, but it was not believed that his condition was critical. His sister, Mrs. Frances Patton, with whom he made his home, called him to come down stairs, and upon getting no answer, she went to see what was the matter, and found that he had passed away. It was believed that he had suffered a heart attack while sleeping.
Prince Lafayette Hawkins, son of John Wesley and Rebecca Ann Hawkins, was born December 23, 1857, in Wise County, which is now Chase County. He was the first white child born in Wise County. He never married and has lived all of his life in the Clements vicinity. Two brothers, William Riley and Isaac Richard, and one sister, Rebecca Jane, preceeded him in death.
He leaves to mourn his passing, one sister, Mrs. Susan Frances Patton of the home, brother John Henry Hawkins of Atwood Okla and one sister-in- law, Mrs. Anna Hawkins of Elmdale. Many nieces and nephews and a host of friends also, survive.
Funeral services were held at the Clements Church at 2 o’clock, Monday afternoon, January 25, with Rev. J O. Borton in charge. Mrs. Lee Graham, Mrs Paul Stephenson, Mr. Joe Mauderly, Oliver Krueger sang, accompanied by Mrs. S. J. Shelton. The pallbearers were John Crawford, Gus Shaft, Jacob Stephenson, Howard Duehn, Edwin Jackson and George Dawson, Sr. Interment was in the Clements cemetery.
P.L. Hawkins Was First White Child Born Here
The death of P. L. Hawkins occurred at his home at Clements, Saturday. Mr. Hawkins had not been in good health for a good while. He had been engaged in farming the most of his life and he was born in this county.
Funeral services were held at the Church at 2 o'clock, Monday afternoon, January 25, 1943, Rev. J. O. Borton being in charge of the funeral. Mrs. Lee Graham, Mrs. Stephenson, Joe Mauderly and Oliver Krueger sang, accompanied by Mrs. Shelton. The pall bearers were John Crawford, Gus Shaft, Jacob Stephenson, Howard Duehn, Edwin Jackson and Geo. Dawson Sr. Interment was made in the Clements cemetery.

one brother, John Henry Hawkins Atwood, Okla., and one sister-in-law, Mrs. Anna Hawkins of Elmdale, Kansas. Also many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and a host of friends.
