Heins, Evert Brandt Sr Evert Brandt Heins, Sr., 79, of rural Emporia, died Aug 5, 2002, at KU Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas. Mr. Heins was a lifetime area farmer of rural Emporia. He also was the owner-operator of a truck leased to Floyd P Mounkes and later to Murphy Trucking. He worked winter months with the Santa Fe Railroad, soybean mill, construction and Sauder Tank Co.
Evert B. Heins, the son of John C and Dorothy H Wessel Heins, was born May 19, 1923, at Emporia. Mr Heins served in the United States Air Force in World War II as a gunner in a B-17 flying fortress. He was a member of Saint Marks Lutheran Church, VFW Post No. 1980 and American Legion Post 5.
He married Barbara Jean McCabe in Missouri. He is survived by his wife; a son, Michael Heins; four daughters, Judy Callen of Madison, Linda Germann, Betty Miller and Bobbie Miller of rural Emporia; 17 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Louis Heins and John C. Heins Jr; one sister, Dorothy Miller all of rural Emporia area. He was preceded in death by two sons, David Earl Heins and Evert B Heins Jr.; his parents; three brothers, Jack Heins, William Heins and Charles Heins; and a sister Betty Walker.
The funeral service was Aug. 11, 2002, at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, Emporia, conducted by Pastor Gary Gooszen of the Sardis Congregational Church in Emporia. Interment was in Cottonwood Cemetery with military graveside service by Ball-McColm Post #5, American Legion, Emporia and Lowry-Funston Post #1980, VFW., Emporia.
