Herrman, Stephen J

Emporia State University graduate and longtime educator Stephen J. Herrman, 60, of Herington died Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2003, at Via Christi-St. Francis Regional Medical Center in Wichita. Mr. Herrman was a social science teacher and head football and track coach at Herington High School from 1969 until his retirement in May 2000. He taught at Delphos from 1966 to 1969.

Stephen J. Herrman, the son of Alvin H. and Mary M. Hoffman Herrman, was born Aug. 28, 1943, in Sabetha. He graduated from Sabetha High School in 1961 and from Emporia State University with a bachelor's degree in educa- tion in 1966 and a master's degree in physical education in 1970.

He married Patricia L. Reid on Aug. 25, 1962, in Sabetha. She survives. Mr. Herrman was a member of the Kansas Coaches Association, the National Education Association, the Kansas N.E.A. and the Herington Country Club. He served on the Herington Recreation Commission for many years. He was a past member of the Jaycees and the Herington Lions Club.

He is also survived by two sons, Scott Herrman of Silver Lake and Craig Herrman of Wichita; his mother, who lives in Sabetha; and five grand- children. His father died earlier.

The Funeral Was Saturday, Oct. 18, 2003, at St. John's Catholic Church in Herington. The burial was in Sabetha Cemetery. Memorial contributions to a scholarship fund at Herington High School can be sent to the funeral home, 404 S. Broadway, Herington, KS 67449-3038.
