RITES FOR MRS. HILDEBRAND

Cottonwood Falls—Funeral services for Mrs. Clara Brandley Hildebrand, 80, pioneer of Chase county, who died at the home of her son, Col. Harry B. Hildebrand in Abilene, Tex., Tuesday, June 5, were held at the Brown Funeral home, Cottonwood Falls, Thursday morning, June 7, at 10 o’clock, with the Rev. Retha L. Sadler, pastor of the Methodist church at Strong City, in charge. Burial was in Prairie Grove cemetery. Mrs. Lee Drummond sang accompanied by Mrs. Hugh Campbell. The pallbearers were Clint Baldwin, Lee Drummond, S.R. Stauffer, R.Z. Blackburn, Fred Howard and C.A. Blackburn.

Clara Brandley Hildebrand, a daughter of Captain and Mrs. Henry Brandley, was born January 27, 1871 at Matfield Green. She was the oldest of eight children, who lived in a log cabin ranch house 3-1/2 miles from Matfield Green. She was married to E.A. Hildebrand May 1, 1892. They were the parents of three sons. In 1894 the family moved to Oklahoma, where Mr. Hildebrand had staked a claim near Ponca City. Mrs. Hildebrand returned to Cottonwood Falls in 1939 where she was active in civic affairs. She was a member of the Kansas State Authors club. Many of her stories and poems were published.

As historian of the Chase County Historical society, she spent several years working on the first two volumes of the Chase County History. She was a member of the Cottonwood Falls Benevolent society, and a charter member of the Claude Newlee Post No. 78 of the American Legion. She also was one of the promoters of the Burnley Memorial library of Cottonwood Falls, with its collection of more than 5,000 volumes.

She is survived by three sons, E.B. Hildebrand, of Vinita, Okla; Col. Harry B. Hildebrand, of Abilene, Tex., and Richard Hildebrand of Bartlesville, Okla.; one brother, Bob Brandley, of Cassoday; one sister, Mrs. Pearl Harsh, of Wichita; seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Funeral Services Thursday at Brown Funeral Home. Interment at Prairie Grove.
Mrs. Clara B. Hildebrand, 80, former Chase County resident, passed away at the home of her son, Col. Harry Hildebrand, in Abilene, Tex., Tuesday, June 5. Funeral services will be conducted at the Brown Funeral Home in Cottonwood Falls, Thursday morning, June 7, at 10 o’clock, with Rev. Retha Sadler, pastor of the Strong City Methodist Church, in charge. Mrs. Lee Drummond and Mrs. H.K. Campbell will furnish the music. The pall bearers are Clint Baldwin, Lee Drummond, S. R. Stauffer, R.Z. Blackburn, Fred Howard and C.A. Blackburn. Interment will be in Prairie Grove cemetery.

Brandley and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Brandley, Cassoday; and Mr. and Mrs. Jack Lampe, Arkansas City, Kansas.
