Holland, Margaret Speer

Death of Mrs. Margaret Holland

Mrs. Margaret Holland, nearly 92 years of age and one of the earliest and best known residents of Clements, died at her home in that town Sunday, March 25 following a brief illness.

The deceased, who was born in Indiana on June 22, 1825 and married to John Holland in 1844 and came to Chase County more than forty years ago. Her husband who was a farmer and stockraiser here was also a former post-master at Clements, which had been their home for the past thirty years.

Mrs. Holland is survived by three children who are Mrs. Charles Jennings, of Bazaar, this county; G. W. Holland of Missouri and J. W. Holland, of Hamburg, Iowa. Her husband's death occurred at Clements twenty-five years ago.

The funeral service took place at the church at Clements Monday afternoon, March 26th, Rev. Townley of Emporia preached the sermon after which internment was made in the cemetery at Clements.

Among the relatives who were present were Mrs. Charles Jennings, of Bazaar, Mrs. B. Pierce of Clements and Mr. Clay Jennings of Kansas City. Mrs. Holland was a woman whom everybody liked and had always held in the highest esteem. She was a constant Christian and was a faithful member of the Presbyterian Church of Bazaar. Since the death of her husband a quarter of a century ago, she had ( not legible) she had continued to live by herself.
