Hudson, Harriet Ellen Patton

Harriet Ellen Patton, daughter of John and Mary Ann Patton, was born June 18, 1858, in Sullivan county near Sullivan, Indiana. At nine years of age she came with her folks to Chase County, and ever since has resided in this county.

January 15, 1874 she was united in marriage to Isaac Milby Hudson who passed away in 1902.

In 1896 Mrs. Hudson united with the Clements Methodist church, later identifying herself with the Clements Presbyterian church, although she never transferred her membership. From the time she united with the church, Mrs. Hudson has shown devotion to her Savior and loyalty to His church. She could always be depended upon to be in her place in church and Sunday school, unless hindered by circumstances beyond her control.

About four years after the death of Mr. Hudson she became housekeeper for Mr. P. L. Hawkins of Clements, a post which she occupied until the moment the Heavenly Father called her home to be with Him.

Last Sabbath she was in her customary place in Sunday school. Tuesday morning she became ill and about seven o'clock Thursday evening, Nov. 12, she passed quietly out into the life for ever, at the age of 73 years, four months and 25 days.

Mrs. Hudson was one of a family of ten children, four of whom survive her. They are Mrs. Melinda Magill, Rialto, Calif.; Mrs. Mary Ann Hawkins, Newton, Kans.; Mrs. Ida Kent, Mishawaka, Ind.; and Mr. Nelson Patton of Clements.

She was the mother of five children. They are Ella, Harvey and Ina who preceded her in death, and Mrs. Eva Hill, of Omaha, and Walter Glenn Hudson, of Los Angeles, Calif. Among those who mourn her loss are also to be numbered eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren, and a very large group of kinsmen, and a wide circle of friends.

Of the hymns used in the memorial service held in her honor, "Leaning on the Everlasting Arms" and "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere" are among those which Mrs. Hudson was fond of singing. In the lives of all who came in contact with her a place has been left vacant by her passing.

Funeral services were conducted Sabbath afternoon, Nov. 15, in Clements church in charge of the minister, N. J. Croft, and interment was in Clements cemetery.
