Jones, Charles W "Victim of Accident Dies After Hard Fight"
"C. W. Jones, whose neck was broken in a fall off the wagon he was riding last Wednesday afternoon about 4:30 o'clock, died at 3 this afternoon at his home, 1844 24th Street where he was taken soon after the accident. He showed remarkable vitality in his fight for life in which he staved off the angel of death for nearly 48 hours following the accident.
He leaves besides the bereaved wife, a family of nine children. They are: Mrs. T. J. Stewart of Harlan, Kansas; Mrs. Clare D. Ely of Cardinal, Colorado; Mrs. P. N. Peterson of Lee Hill; Alfred Jones of Rowena; Claude, Harley, Maud, Fern and Helen of this city. Funeral arrangements have not yet been made."
The funeral was held on Sunday 9 July 1911 at four p.m. in the Congregational Church; Charles was buried in Green Mountain Cemetery.

Charles W. Jones, postmaster, was born in Fayette County, Ohio, January 19, 1849. He received a common school education in his native county.
After attaining his majority he learned the trade of carpenter and engaged in the business as carpenter and builder. In February, 1878, he came to Kansas, locating at Strong City, where he has since resided. He engaged in business as a contractor and builder. He continued in this occupation until January 1880, when he was appointed postmaster at Strong City. He took a prominent part in getting Strong city incorporated and filled the office of Mayor,
being the first Mayor of Strong City. (February 16, 1880)
He then discontinued his business and entered upon his official duties and in connection with his office established a grocery store which he operated until January 1882. He then disposed of it and put in a stock of books, stationery and notions. This business he now operates in connection with the office. He also takes some contracts for building. Mr. Jones is a
member of the Fayette Lodge, No. 449, A.F. & A.M.; and is a member of Strong City Lodge, No. 110, A.O.U.W.
He married Miss Eliza Nicholas of Strong
City, February 18, 1879, by whom he has two children - Charles G. born November 24, 1880 and Daisy May, born May 22, 1883.
