Jones, Chester W "Red" Chester W "Red" Jones, 79,
died Sept., 14, 2002, of injuries
he suffered from a plane crash
in Winnipeg, Canada on June
11, 2002. Services will be held
at 11 a.m. Sept. 19, 2002, at
the Downing and Lahey
Mortuary East, 6555 E.
Central in Wichita. Graveside
services will be held at 3 p.m.
in the Matfield Green
Cemetery.
Jones was returning home
from a Canadian fishing trip
in a chartered plane arranged
by the fishing lodge. Red was
the only one not to survive the
crash.
Chester. W. Jones was born
Nov. 23, 1922, to Olin and
Gladys Sherffius Jones and
grew up in Matfield Green
where he was a member of the
Christian Church.
During World War II, he
served three years in the Navy.
Jones retired from Beech
Aircraft Manufacturing
(Raytheon) after 34 years of
service. For many years he
worked the night shift at
Beech, and he owned and oper-
ated Space Age Manufacturing
and a real estate business dur-
ing the day. Until his accident,
he was still actively engaged in
managing his real estate inter-
ests.
Survivors include his wife of
60 years, Joye Banks Jones;
one daughter, Sheila Jones
Floodman; one son, Dr.
Stephen W Jones; one brother,
Charles "Chuck" Jones of
Wichita; one sister, Hazel
Angleton of Sun City West,
Ariz; grandchildren, Banks,
Blake and Paige Floodman,
Katie Jones and Mandi Jones,
Tony Jones, Angela Eckstein,
Adri Jones, Heather
Kirchhefer; daughter-in-law,
Diane Jones of Emporia; step-
mother, Thelma Jones of
Wichita.
He was preceded in death
by his parents, and one sister,
Eula Sunderland.
A memorial has been estab-
lished with the Chester "Red"
Jones Scholarship Memorial
Fund at Wichita Collegiate
School, 9115 E. 13th, Wichita.
