Six weeks prior to his death the following was noted in the Chase County Republican: Dr. F. M. Jones left Tuesday night for his claim near Burlington,Oklahoma Chase County Republican - October 30, 1890

Death of Dr. F. M. Jones

Died at his home near Burlington, Oklahoma at precisely one o'clock Sunday morning, December 14, 1890, Dr. Frank M. Jones, for years and until recently a prominent resident of Strong City.

The sad news was sudden indeed to Dr. Jones' friends here, for there had been no knowledge of any serious illness and letters received only a few days before from the Doctor himself said that he was feeling better than usual. Dr. Jones was a man who completely fills the meaning of the statement " a good citizen." He had the confidence and respect of all with whom he was associated and in his personal, professional and public career his record was always spotless and clean.

In his practice of medicine he was brought into contact with many people and everywhere made friends. He was a man of education and strong personal character, always taking an active interest in public affairs. For two years he was editor of the Strong City Independent, and his ability and talents were displayed in the journalistic line. He was mayor of this city and always a leader in public matters.

At the opening of Oklahoma, Dr. Jones went to that territory and secured a good claim near Edmond. The town of Burlington was being built very close to his homestead. He was a great admirer of the new country and a steadfast defender of Oklahoma. His departure was a cause of great regret to our community and he carried with him the confidence and good wishes of the people. And now in the hour of bereavement his mourning wife and brothers have the sympathy of every one.

Dr. Jones was a member of the I.O.O.F., Knights of Pythias, Masonic and A.O.U.W. orders. When the remains were brought here yesterday they were met by the lodges, today accompanied to the church where Rev. R. E. Maclean preached an eloquent memorial sermon. They were then followed to the last resting place, beside his father and mother in the Cottonwood Falls cemetery by a large procession of mourning friends.

Knights of Pythias - Strong City Lodge No. 201, K of P adopted the following resolution of respect and grief. Castle Hall, Strong City Lodge No. 201, An all wise Providence has seen fit to remove from our midst by death our loved and respected brother, Dr. F. M. Jones. In him we have recognized a loyal and valiant Knight, one ever ready to advance the cause of Pythianism, an active member of our lodge, when possible to usefulness and instill into our hearts greater love for our work.

A kind protector for his loved family, his death has left a blank which can never be filled, an honored member of an honored profession, those whom he relieved in sickness will never cease to mourn his loss. A useful man in the community, Strong City will weep for him, not less than his newly adopted home in Oklahoma.

We bow to the decree of Providence, we mourn with the bereaved family, we will endeavor to comfort his loved ones and will perform the duties enjoined upon his Knightly brothers. His memory shall be kept green. Our officers are directed to drape the charter and altar of this Castle Hall in mourning for thirty days and our members to wear the badge of mourning for thirty days. Our officers are directed to make proper arrangements for the burial of our departed brother, to communicate the action of this lodge to the bereaved family, to spread a length upon the lodge minutes these proceedings and to furnish the same to the Strong City Republican and the "Spring of Myrtle" for publication.

He is gone, never more will he brighten our Castle Hall. Let his death bind us even more closely to our noble order.

I.O.O.F. - Felix Lodge No. 295, I.O.O.F. adopted the following resolutions: Whereas, Almighty God in his wisdom has seen fit to call our beloved brother F. M. Jones to eternal rest. Be it resolved that we, Felix Lodge, No. 295, I.O.O.F., mourn the loss of our dear brother and extend to the widow and relatives of our beloved brother, our sincere sympathy in this, their hour of bereavement. That we drape the altar and charter for thirty days. That a copy of these resolutions be sent to the wife of our deceased brother and a copy of same be sent to the Chase County Republican for publication and a copy be spread upon the lodge records. Com. G. K. Hagans, J. F. Kirker and W. W. Harvey

Chase County Republican, Cottonwood Falls, Kansas, December 25, 1890

Cards of Thanks - We take this means to express our heartfelt thanks to the many friends who have proven themselves such by kind words and deeds, since our bereavement and who we will ever hold in grateful remembrance.

Lucy A. Jones, C. W. Jones
