Jones, Louiza J Upperman

On the evening of July 13, 1884, at her home on Bloody creek, Chase county, Kansas of malarial fever, occurred the death of Mrs. Louiza J. Jones, wife of Isaac Jones.

Mrs. Jones was born in Adelpha, Ross county, Ohio, November 29, 1826. Her age was 57 years, 7 months and 13 days. She was married to Isaac Jones, Feb. 17, 1846.

Deceased was the mother of twelve children, eight of whom are now living. She immigrated with her husband to Kansas in February, 1878. She united with the M. E. church at an early age. Her sickness was of three weeks duration and her sufferings at times were very great, but she bore them with great fortitude and expressed herself as perfectly willing to die. Death had no terrors for her and she passed into that calm repose of death without a struggle.

She was a faithful wife and affectionate mother and had a strong regard for her children, all of whom feel that they have lost their best and most faithful friend. None knew her but to love her.

She was laid quietly to rest in Prairie Grove Cemetery, followed thither by a large number of relatives and friends. Our mother now has gone to rest,
Her cares of life are o'er;
No more we'll hear her gentle voice
As in the days of yore.

Perhaps the future, way beyond,
May change this life of ours,
By mossy banks and pleasant rills,
Or shady woodland bowers.

We yet may see our mother dear,
That mother we loved so well;
Oh! pleasant thought! and yet we know
The future can only tell.

But if grim death should end it all,
Then in its calm repose
We rest forever from care and pain
And all our earthly woes.

But there is one pleasant thought,
One thought our hearts to cheer
We know the world is better now
Since mother has lived here.

And yet there is one little word,
One word our hearts to cheer
We know that little word is HOPE
For the future bright and clear
