Lesslie, Glenna P

Glenna P Lesslie, 93, longtime Independence resident and the widow of Martin Lesslie died June 9, 2002 at Mercy Hospital where she had been a patient since May 12. Prior to entering the hospital she had been a resident of the Glenwood Estates Nursing Home.

Funeral services will be June 12 at the Potts Chapel with the Reverend Leon Hendrix, paster of the Church of the Nazarene, officiating. Interment will be at the Mount Hope Cemetery under the direction of the Potts Chapel. Memorial remembrances are suggested to the Church of the Nazarene and remembrances will be received at the Potts Chapel or the Church office.

Glenna Pauline Lesslie was born Dec 24, 1908 at Independence the daughter of Francis Peal Ashley and Flora Elizabeth Taylor Ashley. She grew up and attended schools in Independence.

On July 21 1927 at Nowata, Okla, she married Martin F Lesslie. The couple made their home in Independence and he preceded her in death Nov 16 1980. She worked at Electra Manufacturing, Wiley's Cafe and the Manor Nursing Home and was a caregiver for many in Independence. She was involved in the Women of Mission Group, a church nursery worker, the Sassy Snipers at the Penn Terrace, and the Barnabus Outreach at the Nazarene Church.

She is survived by three daughters, Doris Wilson and Charlotte Winebrenner both of Independence and Linda Deyoe of Havana; three sons Wilbur Lesslie of Independence, Larry Lessie of Topeka and Mile Lessie of Haysville; 16 grandchildrem; 33 great-granchildren; three great-great grandchildren; and numerous neices and nephews.
