Long, Delores B. Swift

Delores Long, 62, died Thursday, March 20, 2008, at Select Specialty Hospital in Topeka.

Delores B. Swift, the daughter of Charles W. and Betty Bill Payton Swift, was born May 26, 1945, at Emporia. She graduated from Matfield Green High School and served on the Matfield Green Alumni Association Board for many years.

She and Robert L. “Bob” Long were married Oct. 31, 1964, at Matfield Green.

She worked at several grocery stores in Chase County, painted and wall-papered, taught art in the after-school program, sang at many funerals and worked as “relief” at the Chase County Courthouse in the Road and Bridge and the Appraiser’s offices. She had been a member of Matfield Community Church and Cottonwood Falls United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Embroidery Club and Chase County Artists Guild.

She is survived by her husband; a daughter, Teresa K. Campbell of Independence, Kan.; a son, Jesse L. Long of Lebo; her parents of Matfield Green; six grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her brother, Charles Hugh Swift.

Funeral services were held Monday, March 24, at the Flint Hills Community Church in Cottonwood Falls with Pastor Jim Bartsch officiating. Interment followed at Prairie Grove Cemetery in rural Cottonwood Falls.
