Lowry, Karen Sue

Karen Sue Lowry, 67, a lifelong resident of Emporia, died Tuesday, March 28, 2006, at her home.

Karen Sue Houser, the daughter of Robert C. and Mildred Benedict Houser, was born Dec. 19, 1938, at Moline. She graduated from Emporia High School in 1956 and from Emporia State University.

She married Richard Lowry on Feb. 1, 1959, at Cottonwood Falls. He survives. Mrs. Lowry was a Human Resources administrator. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the P.E.O. Sisterhood, Gems Investment Club and the EHS Class of"56 Lunch Bunch.

She is survived by a daughter, Amy Geitz of Emporia; two sons, Christopher Lowry of Emporia and Michael Lowry of Council Grove; two sisters, her twin sister, Carol Thomas of Emporia and Sylvia Burnell of Litchfield, Ariz.; four brothers, Donald Houser of Emporia, Ronald Houser of Newton and Rodney Houser of Edgewood, Wash.; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

The funeral was Friday, March 31, at the First United Methodist Church. The Rev. Claudia Bakely conducted the service. Burial was in Memorial Lawn Cemetery. Memorial contributions to Hand in Hand Hospice may be sent in care of the funeral home, 501 W. Sixth Ave., Emporia, KS 66801.
