Magathan, James Dean

MOTHER AND SONS DIE FROM EXPLODING GAS FUME

Mr and Mrs W T Featherkile of this city, received word Sunday of the death of their niece, Mrs. Willis Magathan and her two sons, Donald 12, and James, nine years of age, that occurred at their home at Green, Kansas, Saturday night as the result of exploding gasoline fumes in their home.

Willis Magathan, the husband and father, is the son of Mrs. J. C. Magathan, of Emporia. The J. C. Magathan family for many years lived in the Cedar Point vicinity. They moved to Emporia about thirty ago when Mr. Magathan sold his Chase County farm and purchased land north of Emporia. The death of J. C. Magathan occured seven years ago.

When Mr. Magathan who was away from home, arrived he found his wife dead and his boys dying a result of their burns.

The bodies of Mrs. Magathan and sons were taken to Emporia where the funeral services were held from the First Christian church at 11:00 o'clock Tuesday morning, with the Rev. Claude G. Large, conducting the servies. Interment was in the Maplewood cemetery.

Mr. and Mrs. Lester Bourland of this place, and Mr and Mrs Clarence Featherkile, of the Dunlap vacinity, attended the funeral services. Mr and Mrs. W. T. featherkile, of this city were not able to attend on account of the illness of Mrs. Featherkile.
