Death of Jessie Z. Mann

Jessie Z Mann died at St. Joseph hospital, Kansas City, on Thursday, Dec 8, 1898, where he was taken for medical treatment, of cancer of the heart. The body arrived here on Friday night and was buried in the Miller cemetery Saturday morning,

The deceased was born in Sharpsburg, Maryland, Aug 5, 1844, and at the time of his death was 54 years, 4 months and 8 days old.

He moved from Maryland to Ohio with his parents when a boy, and from there to Galesburg, Ind., from which place they afterwards moved to Linn County, Kansas, where he enlisted in Co. I, 10th Kansas Vol., and served to the close of the war. When he left the service he returned to the home of his parents, then at Freemont, Lyon County, Kansas, where he was married to Sarah A Saffer on the 3d of November, 1867. To this union was born four sons, all of whom survive him.

He moved from Lyon County to Chase county in the spring of 1876, where he has since made his home, and where his wife died, January 3, 1880.

He was married to Elizabeth A. Stephenson of Chase County on the 28th day of August, 1881, from which union there were six children born, four sons and two daughters, all of whom survive him.

The deceased was converted while living in Lyon County, in 1873 and in 1874 the United Brethren church licensed him to preach and he has been a faithful worker in the church since.
