Mann, Samuel O

FROM THE KAW CITY, OKLA., STAR

Samuel O Mann was born at Sharpsburg, Maryland, June 19 1847, and died at Kaw City, Oklahoma, January 19 1910, age sixty-two years and seven months.

When he was about seven years of age his parents moved to Mound City, Kansas, at which place at the age of sixteen years he enlisted as a volunteer in Company B, 10th Kansas Regiment, in which company he served until the war was ended, then being honorably discharged.

On Dec 4, 1870 he was united in marriage to Miss Margaret A Rutledge, to which union there was born ten children, eight of whom survive him, two having died in infancy.

In November, 1878 he with his family moved to Kildare, Okla., at which place he resided until 1907, when the family moved to Kaw City, where he lived until the time of his death.

Mr. Mann's death was very sudden, having been due to organic heart trouble. Up to five minutes before his death he was joking and laughing with friends, with no thought of the end that was soon to come. Mr Mann had a very cheerful disposition and made many friends among those with whom he associated.

Mr. Mann had five brothers who served with him in the civil war, all of whom came through without a wound, save one, who was only slightly wounded.

He leaves a wife, eight children, two brothers, and one sister to mourn his sudden death. Funeral services were conducted at the M. E. Church on Jan 21 by Rev. Brown, after which interment was made at Grand View cemetery.

The relatives present at the funeral were as follows: A L Johnson, Eureka, Kansas; G B McClelland, Bazaar, Kansas, Earl Herman, Kaw City, sons in law of the deceased. Mrs. Mary Mann, Cresent City, Okla., daughter-in law. Rev. Burt Freeland, Blackwell, Okla., John Mann, Cottonwood Falls, Kansas, Wm Mann, and Edward Mann, Bazaar, Kansas, Nephews and B F Talkington of Newkirk, a personal friend of the deceased. Chas Brown, Pastor.
