Martin, Wilma E

Wilma E. Martin, 92, died Saturday, July 17, 2004, at the home of her daughter in Great Bend. A celebration of her life service was held Wednesday, July 21, at the Matfield Community Church, Matfield Green with Paster Don Paden officiating. An Order of Eastern Star service was conducted prior to interment in Matfield Green Cemetery, Matfield Green.

Wilma Ester Vesper, the daughter of Harry Ray and Carol Kline Vesper, was born Feb. 9, 1912, at Porterville. The family moved to Chase County in 1914 and that had been her home until ill health caused her to move to Great Bend to live with her daughter.

She graduated from Matfield Rural High School in 1930 and attended the Wichita Business College.

She and Adrion C. Martin were married Jan. 18, 1933, at Council Grove. He died in May 1969.

She was a member of the Matfield Community Church and served on the church board for many years. She was Past Matron and a 59-year member of Falls Chapter #25 Order of Eastern Star. She served on the Matfield Grade School Board and the Chase County Extension Board and had been a member of the New Century Club, a 4-H project leader, and a Cub Scout Den Mother and had been active in other forms of community organizations. She was a homemaker and a seamstress.

She is survived by a son, Larry Martin, Sebastapol, Calif.; a daughter, Jane Saindon, Great Bend; a brother, Ray Vesper, Hawthorne, Calif.; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Lowell R. Martin; an infant sister; two brothers, David and James Vesper; and a step-great-granddaughter.
