Matile, Daniel H

Daniel H. Matile, 83, of Elmdale died Monday, March 7, 2005, at the Chase County Health and Rehabilitation Center in Cottonwood Falls.

Daniel, the son of Eugene C. and Mary Buck Matile, was born Sept. 30, 1921, on a farm southeast of Olpe. He was a Chase County rancher, father and horse breeder all of his life.

He married Teresa M. "Tiny" Korphage Dec. 31, 1946 in Wichita. She preceded him in death on Feb. 28, 2003.

He was a member of the American Quarter Horse Association and American Paint Horse Association. He was a former member of the Emporia Saddle Club and the Council Grove Saddle Club.

He is survived by three sons: Daniel Jay Matile of Herington, Joseph Alan Matile of Kismet and Eugene "Gene" Clifford Matile of Elmdale; one daughter, Elaine Kay Russett of Jetmore; a sister Fern Windier of Emporia; and three grandsons. He was also preceded in death by three brothers; three sisters; three half-sisters; one half-brother; and one grandson.

Viewing will be from 3 - 8 p.m. Thursday, March 10, 2005, with the family present from 6 - 8 p.m. at the Charter Funerals—Emporia Chapel, 501 W. 6th Avenue, Emporia.

Services will be held at the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 11, 2005, with Father Colin Boor presiding. Interment will take place in the Strong City Cemetery.

The family has suggested in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the Flint Hills Rodeo Association or the Strong City High School Rodeo.
