Maule, Martha A

Death of Mrs. C. I. Maule.

On last Sabath morning the many friends of Mrs. Martha A. Maule, of Strong City, received word that the angel of death which had hovered over her home for many, days had carried the freed spirit from its earthly casket to the infinite realms of eternal rest. Pain and suffering were past and only the glory of the Heavenly Father's presence spread before her weary feet.

A devoted wife and mother, she had always been foremost in good works. Many years ago she became a member of the Presbyterian church in Indiana, and after coming to Kansas, she was a faithful helper in the Ladies' society of the. Congregational church in Strong City. She has also been a devoted member of the Woman's Relief Corps, and to her efficient help the McDonald Corps of Strong City owes its existence. Born in December, 1845, in Richmond, Ind., she was married to C. I. Maule in 1870. Eight children, seven sons and one daughter, have blessed the union. .Of this number, one little child now dwells in the happy beyond with its mother.

Her illness was pronounced typhoid fever by the attending physician, and extended over two weeks and two days, On Saturday at noon she fell asleep and during the slumber the spirit passed gently away. The funeral took place on Tuesday afternoon from the Congregational church, and was one of the largest ever known in the county. The Rev. W. T. Blenkara gave the funeral discourse, after which the Woman's Relief Corps took charge of the services and gave the beautiful burial service of the order. The camp of Sons of Veterans marched with a full camp, and large delegations joined them from the G. A. R. Posts of Cotton-wood Falls and Strong City.
