Maggie McCabe Dies In Emporia Hospital

Woman Who Spent All Her Life On Farm Where She was Born, Buried Monday.

Maggie McCabe of Bazaar, a lifelong resident of this county, died Friday at St. Mary's Hospital, in Emporia after a long illness. She was born on the farm west of Bazaar on which she spent all of her life.

The following obituary has been prepared by a friend:

The many friends of Maggie McCabe were grieved to hear that she had passed away February 26 at St. Mary's Hospital in Emporia.

Maggie J. McCabe was born near Bazaar, Kans., April 3, 1872, in a log cabin on the old McCabe place and at the time of her death was 65 years of age. She was the daughter of Patrick McCabe, a Union Civil War Veteran, and Abbie McCabe, both of whom, together with two brothers, preceded her in death.

She leaves to mourn her passing, besides her friends and neighbors, her daughter, Marie, and two brothers, Lee and Will McCabe. All of her life was spent in or near Bazaar, and her friends were numbered by the number of her acquaintances. She was the friend of everyone with whom she came in contact and everyone was her friend. Her friendly and sunny disposition endeared her to everyone and she will be missed in the community where she long had lived. Her passing leaves a place that cannot be filled.

One of the finest and most enduring monuments is the memory that remains in the hearts of a person's friends. Maggie McCabe's delight in doing good, her friendliness and desire for service have raised for her a monument more lasting and enduring than mere marble or granite.

The funeral was held at St. Anthony's Catholic Church at Strong City, Monday morning at 10 o'clock. The services were conducted by Rev. Father Edward J. Albers. The pall bearers, all old friends of the deceased, were Levi Chandler, Nate Mitchell, Will Norton, George McClellan, Harry Hayes and William Oles. The church was crowded to capacity and the great number of people present to pay their last respects to her memory testified to the high regard in which she was held while living.

Burial was in the McCabe lot in Bazaar cemetery and she, therefore, in death rests among the people whom she love in life. May she rest in peace.
