McCallum, Bertha Chrystal Jones

Bertha C McCallum: The funeral for former Chase County and Manhattan resident Bertha Chrystal McCallum, 97,of Radcliff, Ky., was Jan 05, 2002, in the Brown-Bennett-Alexander Funeral Home at Cottonwood Falls. Burial was in Matfield Green Cemetery.

Mrs McCallum died Jan. 1, 2002, at the North Hardin Health and Rehabilitation Center in Radcliff, Ky. She taught school for three years in Chase County.

Bertha Chrystal Jones, the daughter of Levi and Emma Hicks Jones, was born July 12, 1904, at Matfield Green. She married Robert D. McCallum on July 22, 1925, at Towanda. After her husband died in 1957, she moved to Manhattan where she was a clerk in the Kansas State University Extension Department. From 1976 until 1985 she worked at the Manhattan Bible College.

Mrs McCallum was a member of the Blue Valley United Methodist Church in Manhattan. She also was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and a former member of the New Century Club in Matifled Grreen.

She is survived by a daughter Jean Boyd of Lilian, Ala.; five grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. A son, Dean McCallum; two brothers; Virgil Jones and Olin Jones; and three sisters, Edith Bennett, Hazel Drummond, and Mamie Myers, died earlier. Memorial contributions to the Blue Valley United Methodist Church in Manhattan may be sent to the funeral home.
