McCandless, W G Mr. W. G. McCandless died at the Newman Memorial Hospital in Emporia at 10:45 last Wednesday evening, following a long illness and an operation he underwent in
that hospital. Mr. McCandless's
death is shock to his family and brings the deepest regret to the entire community,

The funeral will be held at 2:30 Friday afternoon at the Presbyterian Church in this city, Rev. Scott, pastor of that church preaching the funeral sermon, after which interment will be made in the Prairie Grove cemetery west of this city.
For the past 47 years Mr. McCandless has resided in this county as he and his family came here in the year 1879. He became ill several weeks ago and because of the seriousness of his malady was taken to the Newman Memorial Hospital where he underwent an operation. It was expected that, he would undergo another operation, had his condition improved, he rapidly failed and for several days it had been known there was no hope of his recovery.
Mr. McCandless is survived by his wife and nine children. The children are Anna, Velma, Lizzie, Harry and, Arch McCandless, all of this place; Mrs. Bessie Chatman of Washington state; Clarence McCandlass of New York and Frank and Park McCandless of Colorado.
The sincere sympathy of all is extended to the bereaved family in their hour of great sorrow.

Obituary of W G McCandless
In the death of W. G. McCandless, Chase county has lost one of its best known and most honored men.
Mr. McCandless was born in Alleghany county, Penn., August 9th, 1846. When a lad of only ten years he, with his parents, moved to Bardolph, Illinois. At a young age he united with the Bardolph Presbyterian Church. During the Civil War he served in the Marine hospital at Pittsburg, Pa.
In February of 1870, Mr. McCandless was united in marriage to Miss Mary A. Park and to this union nine children were born. In the year 1879 the McCandless family moved from Bardolph to Chase county, settling on a farm southeast of this city which has since been their home.
Mr. McCandless was one of the founders of the Presbyterian Church of this city and for nearly twenty years was one of its elders.
During practically all his life Mr. McCandless had enjoyed excellent health until the beginning of his last illness about the middle of last June. He shortly afterwards underwent an operation at the Newman Memorial Hospital in Emporia, where his death occurred on July 21st.
The funeral was held Friday afternoon of last week at the Presbyterian Church in this city Rev. E. M. Scott, the local pastor of the church conducting the service. Interment was in the Prairie Grove Cemetery west of this city.
Besides his widow, the deceased is survived by nine children who are:--Frank and Park McCandless of Arlington, Colo.; Mrs. Bessie Chapman of Outlook, Wash.; Clarence McCandless of Garden City, New York; Misses Velma, Anna and Lizzie and Arch and Harry McCandless of this place.
