Lifetime County Resident Passes
Clarence H. McCracken, 75, of Bazaar who was a lifetime resident of Chase Cu;nty, died Saturday in St. Mary's Hospital, Emporia. He had been ill for some time and had been hospitalized on several occasions in recent months.
Mr. McCracken was born Feb. 20, 1898 in the Wonsevu community, a son of Joseph Henry and Laura Geer McCracken. He was married to Bessie Ann Pinkson on Jan 12, 1921, in Emporia.
An employee of the Chase County Highway Department for 33 years, he had retired September 1971.
Surviving him are his wife, of the home; one daughter, Mrs. Kenneth (Betty) Hastings, Cottonwood Falls; three sisters, Mrs. Roy (Hattie) Heathman, Matfield Green; Mrs. Delbert (Lorene) Hall, Panokee, Fla.; and Mrs. Reynold (Mary) Peck, Matfield Green; two grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Joseph and Frank, and four sisters, Minnie, Doris, Mabel, and Winnie.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday in the Brown-Bennett Funeral Home, Cottonwood Falls, with the Rev. Robert Craig, pastor of the United Methodist Church, Cottonwood Falls, officiating. Elmore Stout sang, accompanied by Mrs. Stout.
Casketbearers were Orville Peterson, Eldon Kirk, Frank Gaddie, George Yeager, Emrick Harbaugh, and Jesse Miser. Burial was in the Bazaar Cemetery.
Those from out of town here for the rites were: Mrs. Patricia Lostutter, Emporia; Mr. and Mrs. Carl Pinkston and John Pinkston, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Peck, Florence; Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Heathman and Diana, Chris and David Leet, Atlanta, Kan.; Mr. and Mrs. Don Heathman, Adair, Okla.; Mr. and Mrs. Vaden Heathman, Derby. Employees of the Chase County Highway Department and the Turnpike Maintenance Department attended the rites in groups.

"McCracken Services Held
Cottonwood Falls - funeral services were held Monday afternoon, in the Brown-Bennett Funeral Home, for Clarence H McCracken of Bazaar, who died Saturday in St. Mary's Hospital in Emporia. The services were conducted by the Rev. Robert Craig, pastor of the United Methodist Church. The soloist was Elmore Stout, the accompanist was Mrs. Stout and the pallbearers were Orville Peterson, Eldon Kirk, Frank Gaddie, George Yeager, Emrick Harbaugh, and Jesse Miser. Employees of the Chase County Highway Department and the Kansas Turnpike attended in groups.
Burial was in the Bazaar Cemetery. Relatives who attended from out of town were: Mrs. Clarence McCracken and Mr. and Mrs. W. T. Pinkston, Bazaar: Mrs. Patricia Lostutter, Emporia; John Pinkston and the Messrs. and Mesdames Carl Pinkston and Richard Peck, Florence; Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Heathman, Diana Heathman and Chris and David Leet, Atlanta; Mr. and Mrs. Donald Heathman, Adair, Okla.; Mr. and Mrs. Vaden Heathman, Derby; and Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Heathman, Mrs. Reynold Peck and Hattie Heathman, Matfield Green.
Clarence H. McCracken was a lifetime resident of Chase County and an employee of the county highway department for 33 years before he retired.
The son of Joseph H and Laura Geer McCracken, he was born Feb. 20th, 1898, in the Wonsevu community, and he was married to Bessie Ann Pinkston on Jan 12th, 1921, in Emporia. He was preceded in death by two brothers and four sisters and he is survived by his wife, of the home; one daughter, Mrs. Kenneth (Betty) Hastings, Cottonwood Falls; three sisters, Mrs. Roy (Hattie) Heathman, and Mrs. Reynold (Mary) Peck, both of Matfield Green; and Mrs. Delbert (Lorene) Hall, Panokee, Fla.; two grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
