McCrumm, Robert The death of Robert McCrumm at the Newman Memorial Hospital in Emporia last Thursday afternoon, July 11th., has brought deep regret to his many friends and acquaintances
in Strong City and Cottonwood Falls and Chase County. Mr.
McCrumm who for some time had been suffering from septic heart trouble was taken to the Newman Memorial
Hospital in Emporia several weeks ago. At first his condition seemed to improve but a turn for the worse came last week.
Mr. McCrumm's sister, Mrs. Jennie Garvin, of Wheeling, West Virginia, was here during a part of his illness and death. The remains were shipped to Wheeling, West Virginia, on No. 6 Friday afternoon where the funeral and interment was to be made. The funeral was held either Sunday or Monday afternoon.
Mr. McCrumm was born at Wheeling, West Virginia, May 9th 1857. Wheeling was the old family home of the McCrumm's and three of Mr. McCrumm's sisters, who are still
living there.
About forty year ago he came to Chase county and for the first year or two he was here, he engaged in farming, but soon discontinued this work to take
up hotel work. During nearly all of these years he has been engaged in this business in Strong City. Mr. McCrumm was one of the best liked hotel men of the state as his courteous manners and friendly demeanor won friends quickly and he rarely ever forgot a face.
Mr. McCrumm's first wife died in Strong City in February of 1912. To this union was born one son, who is John T. McCrumm, of Ogden, Utah. John came to this place a few days ago, called by the illness of his father and visited him at the Memorial Hospital but had returned to Ogden and was unable to go to West Virginia for the funeral. John is a
traveling sellsman for the Procter
Gamble company.
Several years ago, Mr. McCrumm was married to Mrs. Barnes, whose death occur about a year ago in California.
A number of years ago Mr. MrCrumm had been appointed by Gov, Davis as hotel inspector which office he held for a year. During recent years, however, he has not been actively engaged in any work as his health had been somewhat impaired.
. He had continued to live at
the Strong City Commercial Hotel
which he operated as a rooming house.
The absence of Mr. McCrumm from the old Hotel in Strong City will indeed be missed by his large number of close friends and acquaintances, as for years his figure was one of the most familiar on the streets of Strong City.
