McDowell, Margaret Maxwell "Maggie" Drummond

The funeral services for Mrs. Maggie McDowell were held from the Presbyterian church Saturday afternoon with Rev. E. M. Scott, the pastor in charge. Interment was made in the Elmdale cemetery.

Mrs. Margaret Maxwell McDowell was born in Thornhill, Perthshire, Scotland, Aug. 15th, 1865. In 1869 when a child of four years she came to America with her parents, She attended the public schools of Chase county and the Kansas State Agriculture College at Manhattan.

In 1887 she was married to John McDowell but was left a widow within a year. Mrs. McDowell's death occurred Nov. 6th, at the age of seventy years, two months and 17 days. She leaves her son, John McDowell, of Chicago; two sisters, Miss Isabel Drummond, of Strong City and Mrs. Agnes Blades, of Long Beach, Calif; one brother, John Drummond of Strong City, and many other relatives and friends to mourn her death.

From her early girlhood, Mrs Mc-Dowell was known for her cheerful disposition which endured through the years and endeared her to the hearts of all who knew her, Through her long and trying illness, she remained patient and uncomplaining, ever thoughtful of others. It seems that what ever life brought she accepted, unlmbittered by sorrows, and unspoililed by happiness. A life so unselfish and a spirit so unconquerable cannot help but inspire those. who come in contact with it.

Mrs. McDowell was a, member of the Presbyterian church of this city.
PIONEER OF COUNTY PASSES WEDNESDAY

Mrs. Margaret M. McDowell, 71, youngest member of one of Chase County's pioneer families, died Wednesday afternoon at 1:55 o'clock at her home in Strong City after a long sickness. Funeral arrangements have not been made, pending word from a son, however, it will be in the family lot at Elmdale.

Mrs. McDowell had been in failing health for several years but was not critical until early in October. She did not improve to any extent and passed away from a heart attack Wednesday afternoon.

Margaret Drummond was born at Thornhill, Perthshire, Scotland, and came to this country in 1869 with her parents, Mr. .and Mrs. Andrew Drummond. After a year in Wisconsin the Drummond family moved to Chase County and has lived here since. She was married about 45 years ago to John Mc-Dowell, who died nine months after her marriage.

Surviving Mrs. McDowell are a son, John McDowell, of Chicago, Ill., a sister and a brother, Isabelle Drummond and John Drumomnd, of Strong City, and a sister, Mrs. Agnes Blades, of Long Beach, Calif. Mrs. McDowell and Isabelle Drummond moved to Strong City 12 years ago from the home place on Diamond Creek.
