DEATH OF GEORGE MCKEE

George McKee died at his home in Matfield Green last Thursday, February 18, after an illness of only two or three weeks. Mr. McKee had not been in good health, however, for quite a while but his condition had been serious for only about two weeks prior to his death.

On Tuesday night, February 16, he suffered a paralytic stroke and continued to grow weaker rapidly from that time. The funeral services were held from the Christian church in Matfield Green Saturday afternoon, February 20, the Rev. E. M. Scott, pastor of the Presbyterian church of this city, preaching the sermon. Interment was in the Matfield Green cemetery.

Mr. McKee was one of the county's early residents. He had lived in the Matfield Green vicinity for the past 54 years. Practically all hie life here he had been engaged in farming and the livestock business and the mercantile business. He had a wide circle of friends and acquaintances.

George McKee was born September 21, 1847, in Dryden, New York, and died February 18, 1932, at his home in Matfield Green, at the age of 84 years, four months, and 27 days. He grew to manhood in New York, coming to Kansas in 1877 and locating on Sharps creek where he engaged in farming.

On February 11, 1882, he was married to Martha Jane Kelly. To this union were born two children, Lulu, who died in infancy, and Mrs. Edna Carpenter, of Matfield Green. Mrs. McKee passed away in 1890. In 1905 Mr. McKee moved to Matfield Green, where he operated a store..

On April 13, 1910, he was married to Mary C. Carnes. Besides his wife and daughter, Mr. McKee leaves to mourn his loss, one grandson, George Carpenter, of Matfield Green.

AGED MATFIELD MAN DIES FROM A STROKE

George McKee had just began to Recover from Attack of Pneumonia

George McKee of Matfield Green, who has made Chase County his home for more than 50 years, died Thursday in Matfield Green as the result of a stroke. Before the stroke he had had a severe attack of pneumonia. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at the Christian church in Matfield Green and interment was in the Matfield cemetery. Rev. E. M. Scott of Cottonwood Falls conducted the funeral services.
