McPhail, Charles Duncan

Charles "Chuck" Duncan McPhail,, 80, died Thursday, JuIy 26, 2007, at Via Christi-St. Francis in Wichita.

The son Of Ross and Ethel O’Clair Jones McPhail, Charles Duncan McPhail was born Sept. 12, 1926, at Saffordville.

He served in the United States Army in Korea and Europe.

He and Norma Lee Wiebrecht McLinden were married Nov. 6, 1995, in the Chase County Courthouse, at Cottonwood Falls.

He was employed as an aerospace engineer with the North American Rockwell Co. and retired in 1987. He served as a Silver-Haired Legislator and as Site Assessor with the Area Agency on Aging. He was a member of the Strong City United Methodist Church, the Chase County All-Veterans Committee and the American Legion of Strong City.

He is survived by his wife of the home; a daughter, Glenna Stewart of Strong city; three brothers, Ross McPhail of Republic, Mo., Howard McPhail of Ames, Iowa and Robert McPhail of Norfolk, Va.; two step-children, Brad McLinden and Kathy Messman; and three step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Charles Ellsworth McPhail; two brothers, Milton McPhail and Harry McPhail; a sister, Phoebe Shindeldecker; a step-son, Bryan McLinden; and a granddaughter.

Services were held Tuesday, July 31, at the Brown-Bennett-Alexander Funeral Home, Cottonwood, with The Rev. John Hastings of Strong City United Methodist Church officiating. Interment, with military honors by a Fort Riley honor guard and “piping out” by Read Elwell, was at Prairie Grove Cemetery, rural Cottonwood Falls.
