Meierhoff, James A

EMPORIA

The funeral for James A. Meierhoff, 80, of Emporia was held Sept. 27, 2002, in the First Christian Church. Rev. Steve Goad con- ducted the service. Burial, with services conducted by the Honors Detail Unit from Fort Riley, were held in Evergreen Cemetery. Memorial contributions to the First Christian Church may be sent to the Roberts- Blue-Barnett Funeral home, PO. Box 175, Emporia 66801. Mr. Meierhoff died Sept. 24, 2002, at Newman Regional Health.

James A Meierhoff, the son of Arnold and Mary Evelyn Fox Meierhoff, was born Dec. 13, 1921, at Clements. He mar- ried Edith Margaret Brooks on June 29, 1942, at Council Grove. She died Jan, 8, 1987. He is survived by his second wife, Edna Jean Hendrickson, whom he married in 1988 in Emporia.

He worked at Conservation Corps camps in Oregon and Washington; at Fairmont Creamery in Council Grove; Beech Aircraft in Delavan; and in Emporia, at Victory-Hoch Dairy, Memorial Lawn Maplewood Cemetery, Didde Graphics and the First Christian Church. He lived for several years in Buhl, Idaho, before he returned to Kansas. He moved to Emporia in 1955.

He enlisted in the Army during World War II, serving as a private first class in the 390th Infantry. He received, the American Service Medal, Asiatic Pacific Service Medal, World War II Victory Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. Mr. Meierhoff was a mem- ber of the First Christian Church. He also was a mem- ber of Veterans of Foreign Wars Lowry-Funston Post 1980; the Bluestem Swingers Square Dance Club; and two card clubs. He had been a - leader of Cub Scout Pack 109 at Mary Herbert Elementary School.

He is survived by three sons, David Arnold. Meierhoff, Dennis Brooks Meierhoff and Daryl William Meierhoff, all of Emporia; two daughters, Donna L. Shaw of Reading and Delight S. Benson of Fort Smith, Ark.; a step-son, Garland Hendrickson of Salina; a step-daughter, Terry Aldrich of Salina; three broth- ers, Ray E. Meierhoff and Ralph J. Meierhoff, both of Buhl, Idaho, and Adolph L. "Ace" Meierhoff of Featherville, Idaho; two sis- ters, Dorothy Evelyn Ferrasci of Salinas, Calif., and Naomi Mae Wing of Mountain Home, Idaho; 10 grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; six great- grandchildren; and five step- great-grandchildren.

A brother, Homer Meierhoff, died earlier.
