Mercer, J H Mrs Scribner MRS. J. H. MERCER DEAD
The many Chase county friends and acquaintances of Mrs. J. H. Mercer, of Topeka, were grieved to learn of her death which occurred Sunday, June 10, at her home in Topeka, at 1417 College Avenue.
The funeral services were held at
2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon at the Mercer home. Interment was in Memorial Park cemetery, Topeka.
Mrs. Mercer was born in this city June 28, 1870. She was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Scribner. The Scribner home was what is now the N. B. Scribner farm just north of the river bridge. It was here that Mrs. Mercer grew to womanhood and married and had lived all of her life with the exception of the past 18 years
when the family moved to Topeka.
For a number of years the Mercer family lived in the Bazaar vicinity where Mr. Mercer was in the cattle business. He was elected county representative from this county and he and his family moved to Topeka upon his appointment as state sanitary livestock commissioner, which office he has held for many years.
Mrs. Mercer was a member of the First Presbyterian church of Topeka. She is survived by her husband and
3 daughters, Elreen and Cora Mercer, of Topeka, and Mrs. James Conley, of Rossville. She also leaves two
brothers, R. R. Scribner, of Lyons,
and N. B. Scribner, of Saffordville.
About two months ago Mrs. Mercer suffered a fractured hip in a fall.. This injury had greatly weakened her but she had shown improvement. A few days ago, however, she took a turn for the worse and her decline was rapid. Her death occurred about noon Sunday.
