Mercer, Rosa May Deering
OBITUARY
Rosa May Deering was born In Circleville, Pocaway county, Ohio, September 13 1873.
While still
a little girl, her parents, moved to this county, locating at Homestead which has since remained their home.
On July, 26th, she was united in marriage to Thomas Mercer, to which four children were
born, three sons, of whom one is dead and a daughter. They are William, Tommy and Fanny. The son who died was Albert.
Besides her husband and children, Mrs. Mercer is survived by both her father and mother and four sister, and two brothers. They are Mrs. Lulu Sayre, of Cedar Point; Mrs. Flora Lutt, Mrs Lena Harbour, of Homestead; Mrs. Lizzie Harmon of Cottonwood Falls; and C. C. and Frank Deering, both of Homestead.
The funeral was held at the Homestead school house at two o'clock Monday afternoon, Rev.
C, C, Haines of the Friends church preaching the sermon. After this, burial was made in the Homestead cemetery.
At the funeral, it is estimated, that six or seven hundred people were present to pay their last respects to the departed one.
For several weeks previous to her removal to the Hohneman hospital in Kansas City, Mrs. Mercer had been slighty ill but her condition was in no way serious. On last Thursday in company with her sister, Mrs Thomas Sayre, the latter's husband and her own hushand, went to Kansas City, in the hopes that both Mrs. Mercer and her sister who was also suffering a grievous ailment might be greatly relieved by operations. The result, was that Mrs. Mercer died a few hours after being given an opiate and undergoing the operation.
Her sister, Mrs Sayre who withstood her own operation successfully is now recovering slowly but she has not yet been told yet of
the death of Mrs. Mercer as the shock would doubtless prove too much for her delicate condition.
She will probably have to remain at the hospital for two or three more weeks before she will he able to return home. Her condition however, is entirelysatisfactory.
