Messer, Laura

Mrs. Laura A. Messer, died at her home in Wonsevu, Kansas, at nine A. M. Monday morning, Jan. 19, 1927, at the age of 80 years, 5 months, 15 days. She was born in Monroe county, Iowa, and moved with her parents to Missouri, and thence to Kansas, in the early sixties. She moved to Cottonwood Falls, about 1865, and for over sixty years, has resided in Chase County.

She was united in marriage with David M. Messer, at Lawrence, Kansas, 1864. Mr. Messer died August 4, 1908. There were born into this home seven children, six sons and one daughter, all of whom are living, George H. of Kansas City; Joseph T. , Britain, Oklahoma; William F and Oscar J., Chase County, Kansas; Samuel L., David N., and Mrs. Minnie B. Merritt, residing in Colorado. Beside these, there are seven grandhildren, and six great-grandchildren and all were present at her bedside at the time of her death, except the daughter and one son residing in Colorado.

The funeral services were conducted by the Rev. E. M. Scott, of the Presbyterian Church, Cottonwood Falls, at Wonsevu, Friday morning, Jan. 21. Interment at Clements, Kansas,

Mrs. Laura A. Messer of Wonsevu, died at her home at 9 a. m. Monday, January 19. She had been in failing health for some months, and the end was not unexpected.

Mrs. Messer was born in Monroe county, Iowa, August 4, 1846, and was 80 years, 5 months, 15 days old at the time of her death. She moved with her parents from Iowa to Missouri, and from there to Kansas in the early sixties. She moved to Cottonwood Falls about 1865, and has made her home in Chase County for over 60 years.

In 1864 she was united in marriage with David M. Messer, at Lawrence, Kans. Mr. Messer died August 4, 1908. To this union were born seven children, who are left to mourn the loss of a kind and loving mother: George H. Messer of Kansas City, Joseph T. Messers of Britain, Okla., William F. and Oscar J. Messer, both of Chase County, Samuel L. Messer, David M. Messer, Jr., and Mrs. Minnie B. Merritt, who reside in Colorado; seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren, and all were at the mother's beside at her death, except the daughter and one son living in Colorado.

The funeral services were held in the church at Wonsevu, 10 a. m., Friday, January 21, conducted by the Rev. E. M. Scott, pastor of the Presbyterian church at Cottonwood Falls. Burial was in the cemetery at Clements, Kans.
