Miller, William S.

William S. Miller died at his home at 1116 State street, Emporia, at 11 o'clock Monday morning, following an illness of several weeks. His death was caused from a lung infection and shock.

Several weeks ago Mr. Miller came near meeting death as a result of electric shock when he touched a light cord while taking a bath. He was found in a semi-conscious condition. Since that time his condition has become rapidly critical.

The funeral service was held from the Presbyterian church in this city at 3 o'clock Wednesday afternoon after which interment was in the Miller cemetery southeast of the city. Rev, E. M. Scott preached the sermon.

William Miller, who was one of the best known farmers and stockmen of this county, was born and reared on the Miller farm southeast of the city. Most of his life was spent in this county. The Miller family moved from their farm in this county to Emporia about a year and a half ago, where Mr. Miller traded for property which has since been the Miller home. He had not been in good health for several years.

Until the Miller family left this county, he had been actively engaged in farming and the livestock business. He and his family resided on the old home place of his father, the late Arch Miller. His death will bring regret to many acquaintances and friends in this county and especially in this immediate vicinity where he was so well known.

Following is the obituary read at his funeral by Rev. E. M. Scott, which covers many of the important points of his life: William Steele Miller was born at Cottonwood Falls, Kansas, on August 7, 1882. He was 51 years of age at the time of his death. He was the fifth child of Mr. and Mrs. Arch Miller and he grew to manhood on his father's farm on Southfork.

He attended the country school near the Miller farm and in 1902 he graduated from the Gem City Business College at Quincy. Following this he returned to the farm and later spent several years in ?------ ado, for his health ----- and returned to this county to manage the Miller farm in 1908.

A year later he was married to Miss Carrie Enlow, of Excelsior Springs. They made their home in Excelsior Springs from 1910 to 1914 and then returned to the farm in this county. They resided on the Miller farm until last year, when they moved to Emporia.

Mr. and Mrs. Miller are the parents of two children, Billy and Queen. Besides the immediate family of Mrs. Miller and the two children who are left to mourn his death are other relatives: Mrs. Jennie M. Harpole, a sister, of Colfax, Ill; three brothers, George, and John, of this place; and James Miller, of Elmdale.
