Monroe, Donald Albert

Donald Albert Monore was born April 13, 1897 in Keosauqua, Iowa, son of George and Ida (Miner) Monroe. He died March 12, 1978 at Cottonwood Falls, Kansas. Don had five brothers and one sister. He grew up in Cottonwood Falls, Kansas.

On July 21, 1920, he was united in marriage to Ruth Alice Phillips at Lyndon, Kansas. To this union were born four sons, and four daughters:

Donald Phillip of Tularosa, New Mexico; Bernadine Caley of Council Grove, Kansas; Herbert of Salina, Kansas; Ina Atchison of Campbell, California; Leo of Council Grove, Kansas; James of Pine Bluff, Arkansas; Ruth Cottrell of Overland Park, Kansas; Linda Estes of Ketterbach, West Germany.

Don and Ruth farmed in the Canning Creek District near Council Grove for thirteen years before having to move to make way for the Council Grove Lake. He maintained the Old Highway 13 bewteen Council Gove and Strong City for 16 years. Don also worked in construction at White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico.Don was a charter member of World War I Barricks No. 3432.

Surviving are his wife, Ruth all sons and daughters, and one brother, Charles, of Salina, Kansas, sixteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren and a host of friends.

He was very devoted to his family. Scripture reference used at funeral: Ecc.3:1-11a. Solos: In the Garden, and Old Rugged Cross.
