Moretz, Charles Julius

Chas. Julius Moretz was born November 19, 1866, in Southern Russia, and departed this life January 4, 1933, at his home in Aulne, having attained the age of 66 years, two months and 12 days. His parents, Frederick and Florentina Moretz, belonging to the Lutheran church, had him baptized in the Lutheran faith.

In 1875, when 9 years of age, with his parents he left Russia to come to this country, landing in Council Grove, Morris County, Kansas, where he grew to manhood, not being privileged to have an education, but had to labor hard every day.

He was united in marriage to Laura Roberts at Strong City, Kans., December 25, 1893. To this happy union were born four children, David S., Ellen May, John Franklin and Earl Lester, two of whom, Ellen May and John Franklin, preceded their father in death.

In 1917 with his family he moved to Aulne, residing on the farm for five years and later moving to town. Under the Rev. H. 'I'. Davis he was converted, in his own dining room in Aulne after convalescing from sickness March 6, 1923. He had told his wife he wanted to be converted, who in turn asked Rev. Davis to speak to him. Others have spoken how he used to delight in telling of his experience in meeting the Lord. After conversion he said, "Mother I am so glad I am saved." Under Rev. Davis he joined the Aulne M. E. church. Some of his favorite songs were "Abide with Me" and "What a Friend We Have in Jesus."

He was taken ill just a week ago Wednesday with the flu, which affected his heart. His heart being weak for some time could not stand the severe strain, which resulted in his death.

He leaves to mourn, his wife, two sons, David of Wichita and Earl of Eldorado; four grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Kusch of Aulne; one brother, Fred Moretz of California; a host of relatives and friends.
