Joe Morozzo Passes Friday

Funeral Services Were Held At Cottonwood Falls, Sunday Morning. Burial at Arma

Joe Morozzo, one of the best known business men in Chase County, died at the Halstead Hospital, Friday, May 8, after several weeks illness. He was taken ill soon after the first of the year and was not able to return to the work he enjoyed so much, again. He was 4l years, one month and 13 days of age at the time of his death.

Funeral services were held at the Brown Funeral Home in Cottonwood Falls, Sunday morning, May 10, at 10 o'clock, with Rev. Fred Clark in charge of the services. Spencer Long sang, accompanied by Mrs. Long. The pall-bearers were Fred Austin, J. V. Gilmore, W. P. Austin, Roy Park, W. R. Mushrush and Cecil Kuhl. The remains were taken to Arma Kansas where funeral services were held at the Methodist church Monday afternoon, and interment was in the Arma cemetery.

Joe Morozzo was born, the son of Anton and Catherine Morozzo of Arma. He attended school at West Mineral, and also at Arma, where his father owned and operated a grocery store. When the father died in 1918, Joe took over the management of the store which he operated successfully until he bought a grocery store in Cottonwood Falls in 1932. He has since opened stores in Madison, Council Grove and Florence.

On May 31, 1935, he was married to Miss Idabelle Ruggles of Pittsburg, Kans., at Yates Center. They came directly to Cottonwood Falls, which since has been their home.

Mr. Morozzo was a member of Arma Lodge No. 408, A. F. & A. M.; Palentine Commandery No. 23 Kinghts Templar; Hiram Chapter No. 30 Royal Arch Masons; Iola Council No. 8 Royal and Select Masters; Mirza Temple Shrine; Falls Chapter No. 25, Order of Eastern Star. He was also a member of Kansas Food Dealers' Association. He was one of the most progressive merchants of Cottonwood Falls. He was courteous and friendly, and during his 10 years in Chase County, made scores of friends and few enemies. His passing brings regret to his many friends in the county.

Those who survive Mr. Morozzo are his wife his mother, Mrs Catherine Morozzo of Arma and one brother John Morozzo, of Council Grove; and two sisters, Mary of Topeka, and Vivian of Arma.
