JOHN MURPHY DEAD

John Murphy, pioneer resident of Elmdale is dead at his home, death coming Monday, following a long illness.

The deceased had lived in Chase county for 47 years coming here from Chicago in 1878. Mr. Murphy never married and lived with his brother, Wm. Murphy, on their farm south of Elmdale, He is survived by his brother and a sister, Mrs. Clara O'Byrne, of Elnora, Calif. Mr. Murphy died at the age of 68 years. He was born at Bridgeport, Ohio, in 1856.

Mr. Murphy had been in failing health for about two years and had suffered greatly with rheumatism. His condition for several weeks has been critical. The funeral arrangements have not yet been completed as the sister who lives in California was notified of her brother's death Monday afternoon, and it was thought she might want to come for the funeral in which event this would be deferred until she could arrive.

Besides his sister and brother, Mr. Murphy leaves several nieces and nephews, one nephew being W. J. O'Byrne of Florence, who came Monday to EImdale to help arrange for the funeral.
