Murphy. Paul G

Paul G. Murphy. 79, of Wichita. died Tuesday, May 14, at the Northeast Health Center in Wichita. Mr. Murphy was a former resident of Strong City.

Mr. Murphy was a psychologist and, according to a story in the Wichita Eagle-Beacon, had been in practice in Wichita since 1949. He retired about two years ago.

He was a native of Hutchinson and he and the former Isla Bibert of Cottonwood Falls eloped in October, 1927 while he was still an undergraduate at the College of Emporia.

"We ran off to Yates Center in a Model-T Ford and were married there,' she said. 'I had met him the first week of school when l went to the College of Emporia. We had a date and dated ever since-57 years. That's not too bad for an eloped couple, is it? "

Mr. Murphy was a former president of the Kansas Academy of Science and was a member of psychology associations. He received his master's and doctor's degree in psychology from the University of Iowa. He did post-doctorate work at Columbia University and the University of Chicago. For a time, he was a psychology professor at Pittsburg State University.

Mr. Murphy is survived by his wife; a son, Donald P. Murphy of Wichita; a daughter, Patricia Arthur of Denver; a brother, Ralph Murphy of Hutchinson: a sister, Joan Boughner of Tulsa; and three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Mr. Murphy was cremated. A memorial service was held Thursday, May 16 at Downing and Lahey Mortuary in Wichita. lnurnment, at a later date, will be in the Strong City Cemetery and will be arranged by Croy Funeral Home. Cottonwood Falls.
