Chase County Obituaries

Nichols, John L John L. Nichols, aged 68 years died this morning at 7 o'clock at the residence of his son-in-law, C. W. Jones. He had been sick about three weeks.
John was born 22 August 1821 in Pennsylvania and married Rachel Klotz on 16 April 1842.
Their first four children where born in Pennsylvania. At the time of Eliza's birth they had relocated to La Salle County, Illinois. The last child Elias Franklin "Frank" was born in Marion Co., Missouri.
By 1874 they were living in Chase Co., Kansas. This is documented by the confirmation of their daughter, Eliza on 3 April 1874 in Cottonwood Falls, Kansas.
In the 1880 census they are living next door to their son-in-law Ben Brown in Sunshine, Boulder Co., Colorado with their youngest son Frank age 16. It is presumed they relocated just before or after their daughter Mary's death, 30 December 1879, to help with the care of their young granddaughter, Marietta Brown.
They returned to Chase County, Kansas sometime in 1881.
