O'Neal, Gerald

Gerald O'Neal, 75, died Monday, Sept. 29, 2003, in Abilene after an extended illness. The funeral was Thursday, Oct. 2, 2003, at Jones VanArsdale Funeral Home in Lebo. A Fort Riley honor guard conducted a military service at Ashton Cemetery, near Hope.

The son of Silas and Lola O'Neal, he was born Jan. 25, 1928, at Dillon. After attending school in Cottonwood Falls, he graduated from Allen High School in 1946. He married Lois Coon on Dec. 2, 1951, at Wichita. they lived in Wichita for 11 years before moving in 1962 to their present home in Lebo. She survives.

Mr. O'Neal worked at a number of occupations, including 25 years as a bulk-milk hauler and 11 years for the Coffey County Highway Department. He is also survived by two daughters, Cheryl Davis of Wichita and Gay Scanlan of Abilene; two sons, Gary O'Neal of Emporia and Danny O'Neal of Oskaloosa; eight grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; one greatgrandchild; and six stepgreat-grandchildren. A sister, Bonnie Coldren of Wichita and two brothers, Verland O'Neal of Madison and DeWayne O'Neal of Wichita, also survive.

Contributions in his memory to the Lebo Senior Center may be sent in care of the funeral home, 107 W Sixth St., Lebo, KS 66856.
