O'Reilly, Helen Ann

Helen Ann O'Reilly, 69, of Plano, Texas, died March 17, 2004, after a lengthy illness.

Helen is survived by her husband of 47 years, Charlie; three sons, Chuck, David and Chris O'Reilly all of Plano, Texas; a daughter, Karen O'Reilly Sulzman of Richardson, Texas; five grandchildren; and a brother, J.T. Phillips of Dallas, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Mary Ann O'Reilly

She graduated from Mt. St. Scholastica College in 1956 with a degree in dietetics and a minor in chemistry. She then completed her ADA and dietetic internship at Freedman Hospital, Howard University where she also did post graduate work.

She and her husband, Charlie, were married on June 30, 1956, in Oklahoma City, Okla. and she then completed her ADA program in 1957 while her husband finished his military service at Andrews Air Force Base in Washington, D.C.

She received her American Dietetic Association credentials in 1957 and served as a fully licensed dietitian for many years, maintaining her credentials until her death. Her memberships included the Dallas Dietetics Assn., The Texas Dietetics Assn. and the American Dietetics Assn.

For 12 years, she served as a member of the Texas State Board of Examiners for dietitians. In 1968, she was chosen as one of the Outstanding Young Women of America. For the past 30 years, she and her husband owned and operated a large chain' of McDonald's restaurants in Texas.

She was a member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church, Richardson Women's Club, The Park Cities Republican Women's Club, The Dallas Southern Memorial Association, and the Gleneagles and Stonebriar Country Clubs. In the 1980s, she and her husband were awarded the Cross of The Order of St. Benedicts, one of the highest awards given by her college.

A funeral mass was celebrated at Prince of Peace Catholic Church on March 20, 2004. The family suggests memorials may be made to Catholic Charities or the American Diabetes Assn., 940 Research Echelon II, Suite 300, Austin, TX 78759.
