Ott, John
John Ott, 94, Richmond, Kan. died Monday, Feb. 25, 2008, at Ransom Memorial Hospital, Ottawa.
John, the son of Albert Joseph and Johanna Sheriff Ott, was born March 12, 1913, at New York City, N.Y.
He grew up in Council Grove with his foster parents, Della J. and William E. Nix and lived in Matfield Green for about five years. He has lived in the Ottawa area since about 1957.
He graduated from Council Grove High School and attended the College of Emporia.
He married Marjorie Eastmen at Matfield Green on Dec. 24, 1939. They lived at the Osage County Lake for seventeen years, while they owned the marina there. She preceded him in death on Aug. 10, 2005.
During World War II, he was an inspector for the Procurement Department. He later operated the truck stop at Beto Junction, which was owned by Beth, Inc. for 30 years, retiring in 1980.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church and the Sunshine Sunday School at Ottawa.
He was a 53 year member of Masonic Blue Lodge, Past 32nd Degree Scottish Rite, Lawrence, life member of Chanter Unit Abdalla Shrine; Past President of Ottawa Shrine; Kansas York Rite
Bodies, Chapter #7; Council #18 and Commandry #11, Order of Silver Trowel, Order High Priesthood; Past
Commander of Knight Templar of Kansas; Grand Representative of Tennessee in Kansas for both Grand Council and Grand Chapter; Past Patron Order of Eastern Star in Falls Chapter #25 Cottonwood Falls, and Union Chapter #19, Ottawa; Past Supreme Advisor of the Order of True Kindred International; Past Puissant Sovereign Knight of the Red Cross of Constantine St. Justine Conclave; three-time Advisor of Retta Conclave #8, Ottawa; Grand Sentinel Grand Council 2000-2001; and Past Watchman Order of White Shrine.
He is survived by four sons, William Daniel Ott of Kingsville, Texas, John E. Ott of Allentown, Pa., Michael A. Ott of Ottawa and David E. Ott of Houston, Texas; 10 grand-children; 13 great-grandchildren and one step-great-grandchild. He was also preceded in death by his parents and foster parents.
Services were held Friday, Feb. 29, at Dengel & Son Mortuary in Ottawa. Cremation is planned.
