Palmer, Mary E

Mary E. Palmer, 91, died Thursday, Feb. 5, 2004, at the Plaza West Regional Health Center in Topeka.

Mary E. Whitney, the daughter of Edward B. and Sadie Giffin Whitney, was born Dec. 25, 1912, at Hymer. She married Robert Palmer Oct. 24, 1935, at Topeka.

She was a secretary at Strong City Grade School before she worked as a Security Supervisor at the Kansas Insurance Department in Topeka. She retired after working there for 15 years.

She was a member of the First Methodist Church in Topeka, the Falls Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star #25, and P.E.O. Chapter BZ in Cottonwood Falls.

She is survived by a son, Arthur Palmer of Topeka; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and a son, Carl Palmer. The funeral services were held Feb. 9, 2004, at the Brown-Bennett-Alexander Funeral Home, Cottonwood Falls. The Rev. Melody Kimbrel of the United Methodist Church of Cottonwood Falls officiated. Interment followed at the Prairie Grove Cemetery, Cottonwood Falls. Memorial contributions to Chase County E.M.S. may be sent in care of the funeral home, 201 Cherry, Cottonwood Falls, KS 66845.
