Pattohn, Chad R

Chad R. Patton, 82, of Cassoday died Monday, Aug. 1, 2005, at Cassoday.

Chad, the son of C. Ray and Lula Pratt Patton, was born Oct. 1, 1922, in Chase County. He attended one room schools in Chase County and graduated from Matfield Green High School. He also graduated from Kansas State Teachers College in Emporia.

During World War II he was sent to advanced training at Baylor University. From Baylor he was assigned to the 66th Infantry Division in the United States Army and served in the European Theatre.

In 1944 he married Doris Jean Johnson. He worked as a teacher, principal, coach, farmer-stockman and retired as a rural letter carrier for the Postal Service. Chad was a member of the Friends Church at Homestead and attended the Cassoday United Methodist Church. He was member of the Cassoday Lion's Club, the American Legion, the Masonic Lodge and Kansas Teachers Association. He was a member and leader of 4-H for many years and was active in many organizations in Butler County.

He is survived by his wife; three sons, Tad Patton of Benton, Larry Patton of El Dorado and Rick Patton of Wamego; two daughters, Jan Weber of Wichita and Jane Brewer of Pratt; a sister Hope Spain of Marion; 12 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by two sisters and one brother. Services were held Friday, Aug. 5, 2005, at the Cassoday Grade School. Burial followed the services in the Cassoday Cemetery. A memorial has been established with Butler Community College for the Chad and Doris Patton scholarships for students attending Flinthills High School. Donations may be left with the Kirby-Morris Funeral Home, who is in charge of arrangements.
