Patton, Mary Ann Ring

CLEMENTS, May 9, 1886:

MARY ANN (RING) PATTON

Mrs. Mary Ann Patton, wife of John Patton, aged about 60 years, died yesterday morning, and was buried today in the cemetery north of town. Besides her husband, an aged man, she leaves two sons, five daughters and many grandchildren to mourn her death.

All the children except two live near their parents; one, Mrs. Payne, lives in Garnet, and Mrs. Magill, another, is in the west.

Mr. and Mrs. Patton came here with their family from Indiana about eighteen years ago, bought a farm and have been on it ever since. Their children have all married and settled down. Mr. Patton has the sympathy of many friends in thus being left entirely alone; for a man who buries a long loved and devoted wife feels lost and alone, although surrounded by dutiful sons and daughters ever ready to minister to his wants.

Chase County Leader News, Cottonwood Falls, Kansas, May 13, 1886.

The following was submitted by her great great granddaughter, Margaret E. Haynes

Mary Ann (Ring) Patton was preceded in death by two sons, William H. and Joseph Charles, and one daughter, Rose Emily who died about two weeks before her mother died. Survivors of Mary Ann Patton were her husband, two sons and four daughters.

Died, at Clements, on Sunday morning, May 9, 1886, after a lingering illness, Mrs. John Patton, aged 65 years. Mrs. Patten had lived in the county many years, and had a large and highly respected family who have the sympathy of the entire community in their bereavement.
