Peyton, Phillip
Philip Peyton of Bazaar died at the Axtell hospital at Newton last Friday afternoon, Nov 13th, 1914 after a six week's illness due to
apoplexy. In point of years as a resident of the Bazaar vicinity, Mr. Peyton was one of the earliest settlers as he came from
West Virginia together with his father and several other brothers in 1857. They located on Peyton creek which was named
after them. In the year 1871 the family moved to Sharp's Creek, a mile south of Bazaar, where Mr. Peyton took a homestead.
This has continued to be his home.
In 1863, Mr. Peyton was united in marriage to Miss Lydia A. Sharp and to this union ten children were born-six sons and four
daughters. One son died in infancy and another son R.T. Peyton, died in 1905 at the age of 22 years.
Mr. Peyton was an honest, kind hearted man. He bore the privations and hardships of all early pioneers of Kansas bravely and
even though it seemed that adversity might come time after time, yet, he never lost faith or his cheerfulness. Practically all his
life was spent on a farm where farming and stock-raising was his occupation.
Besides his wife who is now critically sick at the family home at Bazaar, Mr. Peyton is survived by the following children: M. H.
Peyton of Lahano, Okla. J.D. Peyton of Jogar, Okla. George Peyton of Binger, Okla. R.E.Peyton , Mrs. Sager, Mrs. Lawrence
all of Bazaar, Mrs. Davis of El Reno, Okla. and Mrs.Vilweg of Minco, Okla.
The funeral services were held at the Bazaar church at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon after which burial was then made in the
Sharp's Creek cemetery.
