Pickett, James H

Former area resident, James H. Pickett, 95, of Soldier died April 30, 2002, at his home.

Mr. Pickett, a farmer and stockman, first farmed in the Emporia area, then moved south of Soldier. He had farmed there since 1925.

James H. Pickett, the son of Hillard F and Ruth I Mitchell Pickett, was born Jan. 15, 1907, in Hymer. He graduated from Americus High School in 1925. He married Mary Elizabeth Troxell in 1925 at Lyndon. She died May 11, 1992. Mr. Pickett is survived by one son, Russel Dean Pickett Sr. of Soldier; two daughters, Idella Mae Anderson of Independence, Mo., and Romona Jean Funk of Memphis, Tenn.; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. A son, Jack Pickett; three brothers, and one sister died earlier.

The funeral was Saturday in the Chapel Oaks Funeral Home at Holton. Burial was in Soldier Cemetery. Memorial contributions to the Kansas State University Center for Basic Cancer Research can be sent to the funeral home, 524 Pennsylvania Ave., Holton 66436
