Pierce, Lester C

Lester C. Pierce, 92, died Wednesday, July 19, 2006, at the Chase County Health and Rehabilitation Center in Cottonwood Falls.

Lester C. Pierce, the son of James and Agnes Pflager Pierce, was born Nov 9, 1913, at Elk Community. He and Aileen Layman were married May 19, 1935, in Emporia. She died July 17, 2000.

He was a mechanic and worked for Unified School District 284, for Beaver, Inc., and International Harvester Implement Co. He was the fire chief of the volunteer fire depart- ment in Chase County for 40 years and belonged to the Kansas State Twin Association. He was a member of Zeredatha Masonic Lodge #80 A.F. & A.M., Cottonwood Falls.

He is survived by two sons, John L. Pierce of Sierra Madre, Calif. and Lester "Chuck" Pierce of Park City; two daughters, Faye Janes of Lawrence and Rae Palmer of Topeka; one brother, Leslie Pierce of Topeka; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, William Pierce and Walter Pierce. Funeral services were held Saturday, July 22, at the Brown-Bennett- Alexander Chapel, Cottonwood Falls, with Pastor Layman Pierce officiating. Burial followed in Elmdale Cemetery in rural Elmdale.
