Pittman, Meredith Thomas "Tom"

Meredith Thomas "Tom" Pittman, 81, Topeka, formerly of Scranton died Oct. 10, 2001, at a Topeka care facility.

He was born June 6, 1920, at LaCrosse, Wis., the son of Thomas W and Lucille Spears Pittman. Mr. Pittman joined the Navy during World War II and served overseas where he saw duty in the Pacific Theater. He was a Special Service Officer for the Veterans Administration. Mr. Pittman retired as Chief Admissions Director from the Veterans Administration Hospital at Topeka in 1976. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church at Scranton and the Knights of Columbus at Osage City. Other membership included American Legion Capitol Post #1 at Topeka, Cardinal Chapter of the Good Sam Camping Group and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees.

He married Charlotte Goodin on Feb. 0, 1990, at Topeka. He is survived by his wife, sons, Ronald Pittman, St. Paul, Neb. and Jerry Pittman, Cottonwood Falls, a daughter Cathy Wells, Mayetta; three step-sons; two brothers, John Pittman and Gilbert Pittman, both of Wichita; four grandchildren; two step-grandchildren and one great-grandson. A sister; Charlotte Jarzemski and a brother, Elwin Pittman, preceded him in death.

Visitation was held on Oct. 14, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church with a parish rosary recited and a Knights of Columbus rosary was recited. The Mass of Christian Burial was held Oct. 15 at St. Patrick's Catholic church. The burial was at West Lawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery at Topeka. Memorial contributions to St. Patrick's Catholic Church for the construction of the handicapped accessible ramp or lift may be sent to Carey Funeral Home at 503 S Topeka Ave, Burlingame, Kan. 66413.
