Pitts, Emily Mary Kieffer

Council Grove native Emily Mary Pitts, 91, died Monday, Feb. 6, 2006, at the Village Manor in Abilene.

The daughter of Vincent and Lucy Leffler Kieffer, she was born July 18, 1914, at Council Grove. She married Omer Glen Pitts on April 10, 1938, at Cottonwood Falls. He survives.

Mrs. Pitts had worked at Newman hospital in Emporia and the Hilltop Cafe, Tailor's Laundry and Ina Yahn Nursing Home in Council Grove. She was a member of the Fairview Willing Workers Club and a quilting club.

She is also survived by one daughter, Rosalie Cornelius of Soloman; one son, Glen Pitts of Warrensville, S.C.; two brothers, Charlie Kieffer of Council Grove and Ed Kieffer of Colorado Springs. Colo.; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Three brothers, Harry Kieffer, Bill Kieffer and Elvin Kieffer, died earlier.

The funeral was Friday, Feb. 10, in the Penwell-Gabel Council Grove Chapel. The Rev. John Bliss officiated. Burial was in Comisky Cemetery, southeast of Council Grove. Memorial contributions to the American Diabetes Association may be sent in care of the funeral home, 137 N. Union St., Council Grove, KS 66846.
